Portable sauna setup, step by step: from box to steam in three minutes

A step-by-step setup guide for the first time — and every time after, if you store the tent between sessions.

The Hazemor tent ships in one bag. From unzipping that bag to settling into a steam session takes about three minutes once you’ve done it once. The first time is a bit slower while you work out which end of the hose connects where. This post walks you through all of it.

What’s in the box

  • The folded sauna tent (frame + fabric, in its carry bag — about 41 × 12 × 12 in)
  • The stainless steam generator (sits on the floor outside the tent)
  • The steam hose (connects the generator to the tent)
  • The folding chair (fits inside the tent)
  • Remote control (timer and steam level, operates from inside)
  • Power cord — plugs into any standard 120 V outlet
  • Optional: the red-light addon, if you ordered it

Before you start: clear about 4 × 4 feet of floor space — tile, hardwood, carpet or a yoga mat all work. Make sure there’s an outlet within six feet.

Step 1 — Pop the frame open (about one minute)

Lift the folded tent out of the bag. The semi-automatic frame will try to spring into shape on its own; give it a hand if any pole hasn’t fully clicked into place. Set the base flat on the floor and press down lightly at the top corners to seat the frame.

No tools. No manual to re-read. If you’ve ever opened a pop-up beach tent, it’s the same muscle memory.

Step 2 — Fill the steamer and connect the hose

Open the lid of the stainless steam generator and fill it with water. Hot tap water speeds things up (steam in about two minutes); cold water works too (six to eight minutes to first steam).

Close the lid, connect one end of the hose to the generator’s output nozzle, and feed the other end into the tent through the hose port near the base.

Place the chair inside the tent. If you’re running the red-light addon, mount the light panel on its interior clip now.

Step 3 — Press start

Plug the generator into a standard household outlet. Press the power button, pick your steam level and timer from the remote.

Steam will appear from the vent within a few minutes. You’ll see it; you’ll also feel the air inside the tent warm up through the fabric.

Step 4 — Zip in and sit

Step inside, sit on the chair, and close the zipper around your neck (or head — your choice). The interior is 43 × 43 × 71 inches, so you can stretch your legs, roll your shoulders, breathe.

Use the remote to adjust steam level or stop the session without stepping out.

First-session tips

  • Hydrate before and after. A glass of water with electrolytes afterwards is a good habit.
  • Start with 15 minutes at a medium steam level. Work up to 25 minutes once you know how your body handles the heat.
  • If you’re new to steam saunas, the first few minutes may feel more intense than infrared — humidity carries heat faster.
  • Keep a towel inside for the chair and your face.

If steam isn’t coming out

  • Check the water level — the generator won’t produce steam if it’s below the minimum fill line.
  • Check the hose on both ends and make sure the port into the tent isn’t kinked.
  • Give it the full two to three minutes with hot water, or six to eight with cold. It isn’t broken, it’s heating.
  • If you’re on a weak outlet (older breaker box, long extension cord), try a different outlet. The generator pulls real wattage.

Breaking it down and storing

After the session, squeegee the interior walls or wipe them with a towel. Leave the tent open for ten minutes to air out — this prevents mildew and keeps the fabric smelling fresh.

Empty the remaining water from the generator so no mineral residue builds up.

When it’s dry, fold the frame back down — push the corners inward and the whole thing collapses on itself — slide it into the carry bag, and store it. Under a bed, into a closet, into the back of a car for a trip. 41 × 12 × 12 inches folded.

FAQ

Can I leave it set up between sessions?

Yes. If you’ll use it tomorrow, leaving it up saves the one-minute setup. Just make sure it’s fully dry inside before you close the zipper.

Can I set it up outside?

The tent is designed for indoor use. On a covered patio, keep the generator and outlet dry and out of direct wind. Not for rain or snow.

What about the first-use smell?

The fabric is low-odor and eco-conscious, but any new fabric can have a slight scent out of the bag. Run a 10-minute preheat with the zipper open before your first real session.

Do I need a special outlet?

No. Any standard 120 V household outlet is fine. No wiring, no installer.
